Zach speaks at the Western Virginia Expo

IRTC’s own instructor, Zach, spoke at the Blue Ridge Chapter’s Western Virginia Expo on Thursday! His presentation topic was “Hands-On: Setting Hand Expansion Valves.”

“We looked at the three main applications of hand expansion valves in refrigeration systems (expansion, minimum flow, and metering for recirculated evaporators),” Zach said. “We quickly reviewed enthalpy (P-h) diagrams to explain why these applications are different, and how the correct setpoints could be calculated using engineering data. We then kicked on the system, and explored checking the setpoint, and different practical approaches to setting them that don’t involve calculations.”

Zach was also able to sit in and listen to other presentations and enjoyed hearing from manufacturers.

IRTC was happy to be a part of expo day. We were also excited to host the presentations here in IRTC’s classroom! In addition to Zach speaking, there were 8 other presentations. More than 30 vendors attended and set up booths outside.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the expo day a success! We look forward to being involved in the expo next year.
